When it comes to a garden tractor pulling event, most of the organized events usually have a loophole or clause that some may construe as discriminatory to the mechanically inclined. Some may even say that the certain rules barring specific types of garden tractors border on overkill and that some of the fun is taken out of the garden tractor pulling event when some restrictions are enforced. A custom made garden tractor does not have an established consumer history. There are far many dark areas with a homemade device.

When entering in a garden tractor pulling event, it is just too much for the organizers of the event to have to worry about the tractor literally falling apart when the competition starts. If a homemade garden tractor is constructed with dozens of parts picked and pieced from here and there, no one can truly certify the particular safety of the model for the garden tractor pulling event. So, this gray area is something that the organizers an judges would prefer to avoid. From their perspective, it is best to play it safe and it is hard to disagree with them.
